On June 30, 2025, Cristiano Ronaldo confirmed via Al-Nassr’s
official website that he had received offers to play in this summer’s FIFA Club
World Cup but opted to stay with his Saudi club. The football icon explained
that he needed time to rest and prepare for the demanding season ahead. Despite
Ronaldo’s decision, FIFA President Gianni Infantino stirred speculation,
revealing that discussions were ongoing about the Portuguese star potentially
joining another club on a short-term basis for the tournament. During an
interview with streamer IShowSpeed, Infantino hinted, “Ronaldo might play for
one of the teams… who knows.”
This has sparked rumours of a possible short-term deal that
could see Ronaldo feature in the U.S.-based Club World Cup, potentially setting
the stage for a reunion with longtime rival Lionel Messi, who will play with
Inter Miami.
Ronaldo has now joined Al-Nassr’s pre-season training camp
in Austria after an extended break following his successful Nations League
campaign with Portugal, where they defeated Spain in a dramatic penalty
shoot-out. Eager to end his trophy drought with Al-Nassr, the 40-year-old
recently signed a contract extension and is optimistic under the leadership of
new head coach Jorge Jesus.
Al-Nassr is set to play Toulouse in a friendly on Wednesday
at the Untersberg-Arena in Grodig. Ronaldo, who began his professional journey
with Sporting CP in 2002, has since played for Manchester United, Real Madrid,
Juventus, and now Al-Nassr. With over 700 goals in 900+ club appearances and a
record as the highest international goal scorer, Ronaldo’s legacy continues to
grow.
Having already won five UEFA Champions Leagues, three
Premier League titles, two La Ligas, two Serie A trophies, and the Arab Club
Champions Cup, Ronaldo now eyes domestic glory in Saudi Arabia as the new
season looms.
