Following the Indian government's decision to ban 25 OTT
platforms for allegedly streaming vulgar and obscene content, producer Ekta
Kapoor has issued an official statement distancing herself and her mother,
Shobha Kapoor, from the controversy surrounding ALTT. Popular platforms like
ULLU, ALTT, Desiflix, and others have been ordered to shut down due to
violations related to indecent and explicit content.
Addressing the issue on Instagram, Ekta wrote, “To
whomsoever it may concern,” and clarified that neither she nor her mother has
been involved with ALTT since June 2021. “Media reports have been in
circulation about ALTT being disabled by the authorities, however, contrary to
such reports, Ms. Ekta Kapoor and Mrs. Shobha Kapoor are not associated in any
capacity whatsoever with ALTT,” the statement read.
She further explained that ALTT is now operated by Balaji
Telefilms Limited following a recent merger with ALT Digital Media
Entertainment Ltd., as approved by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and
effective from June 20, 2025. Ekta emphasized that Balaji Telefilms is a
publicly listed company that adheres strictly to corporate governance and
compliance norms.
The government’s ban targeted apps including ULLU, ALTT, Big
Shots App, Desiflix, Boomex, Feneo, ShowX, and others for their alleged obscene
and pornographic content. Kapoor concluded her statement by urging media
outlets to verify facts before attributing any connection between her and the
banned platforms.
