The PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana is a flagship Central
Sector scheme launched by the Government of India to support the income of
small and marginal farmers. Fully funded by the central government, it provides
₹6,000 per year to eligible farmer families, distributed in three equal
installments of ₹2,000. With the 20th installment expected soon in mid-2025,
it's important for farmers to understand the scheme's eligibility, exclusions,
application process, and how to check their status in the beneficiary list.
Launched on 1st December 2018, the scheme aims to offer
direct income support to landholding farmer families, defined as a husband,
wife, and minor children. Every eligible family receives ₹2,000 every four
months, totaling ₹6,000 annually, directly into their bank accounts through the
Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode. The 19th installment was released in
February 2025, benefiting more than 9.8 crore farmers across the country during
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bihar.
To receive the 20th installment, applicants must fulfill
specific eligibility conditions. The beneficiary must be an Indian citizen and
own cultivable land as a landholding farmer. Additionally, the applicant must
fall under the small or marginal farmer category and must have completed the
mandatory e-KYC through Aadhaar authentication. Without successful e-KYC, the
benefit will not be credited.
The e-KYC process can be completed using multiple methods.
Farmers can authenticate their Aadhaar details through OTP verification
directly on the PM Kisan Portal. Alternatively, they can opt for biometric
verification at their nearest Common Service Centre (CSC) or use face
authentication through the PM Kisan mobile app. This authentication step is
crucial to ensuring continued receipt of the installment.
However, the scheme excludes certain individuals from
receiving benefits. Institutional landholders, holders of constitutional posts
(both current and former), and former Members of Parliament (MPs), Members of
Legislative Assemblies (MLAs), ministers, and municipal officials are not
eligible. Government employees (excluding Group D/MTS staff), pensioners
drawing ₹10,000 or more monthly, and those who paid income tax in the last
assessment year are also excluded from the scheme.
The PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana offers multiple benefits to
India's agrarian economy. It provides timely financial support ahead of sowing
seasons, reduces dependence on informal moneylenders, and allows farmers to
invest better in essential agricultural inputs like seeds, fertilizers, and
equipment. The scheme has also played a role in empowering women and rural
farmers, many of whom are significant beneficiaries.
To register for the 20th installment, farmers need to visit
the official website, pmkisan.gov.in. Under the "Farmers Corner"
section, they should click on “New Farmer Registration 2025” and enter their
Aadhaar number and mobile number and verify it via OTP. Once the registration is
complete, they can submit the form and keep a printout for their records.
In case of errors due to incorrect Aadhaar details or
authentication failure, farmers can fix the issue by using the “Edit Aadhaar
Failure Record” option on the same website. By entering the correct Aadhaar
number and related details, they can search and update their information
online.
To check the status of their PM Kisan 20th installment,
beneficiaries can visit the portal and go to the “Beneficiary List” option
under the “Farmer Corner.” By entering their Aadhaar number, mobile number, or
bank account number and clicking “Get Data,” they can view whether their
installment has been processed and credited.
As the 20th installment nears, farmers are advised to ensure
their registration details are accurate and e-KYC is completed on time. The PM
Kisan Yojana continues to strengthen the rural economy by ensuring direct
financial assistance to the nation’s food providers. For the latest updates,
