The winners of the prestigious 71st National Film Awards
were officially announced today, August 1, at the National Media Centre
in New Delhi. The jury, after evaluating films certified by the CBFC between
January 1 and December 31, 2023, submitted their report to Union
Information & Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of
State Dr. L. Murugan at 4 PM. The awards celebrate excellence in
Indian cinema, recognizing achievements in acting, music, direction,
production, and more.
Shah Rukh Khan won the Best Actor award for Jawan,
sharing the honour with Vikrant Massey for his compelling performance in
12th Fail. Rani Mukerji received the Best Actress award
for her powerful role in Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway.
In the Best Hindi Film category, the satirical drama Kathal:
A Jackfruit Mystery bagged the top prize. The Best Film in Telugu
was Bhagavanth Kesari, while Parking won in the Tamil category.
The Malayalam industry shined with Ullozhokku winning Best Malayalam
Film, and its veteran actress Urvashi earning Best Supporting
Actress.
South Indian cinema stood tall across multiple
technical and performance categories:
Best Action Direction: HanuMan (Telugu)
Best Lyrics: Balagam
Best Music Direction: Vaathi (Tamil)
Best Editing: Pookalam (Malayalam)
Best Production Design: 2018 – Everyone is a Hero
(Malayalam)
Best Male Playback Singer: Baby
Best Screenplay: Baby (Telugu) & Parking
(Tamil)
In supporting roles, Janaki (Vash) and Vijayaraghavan
(Pookalam) were among the notable winners. The Kerala Story (Hindi) won
for Best Cinematography, while Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani was
recognized for Best Choreography.
This year’s National Film Awards once again showcased the rich
diversity and creativity of Indian cinema, celebrating talents across
languages and genres. From Bollywood superstars to regional gems, the list of
winners reflects a vibrant cinematic landscape committed to storytelling
excellence.
