The Unique Identification Authority of India
(UIDAI) is preparing to launch a new mobile application called the e-Aadhaar
App that aims to simplify the process of updating minor details on the
Aadhaar Card. Until now, many changes such as date of birth, name, phone number
or address required a physical visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra along with
supporting documents. The new app promises to make those updates faster and
entirely digital.
What the
e-Aadhaar App Will Do
With the upcoming app, users will be able to:
update their date of birth, address, and phone number directly from their
smartphones, without stepping into a centre. The app will integrate with verified
government databases such as passport, driving licence and birth certificate
databases to automatically validate supporting documents. This is intended to
reduce both the time and the possibility of errors or fraud. According to reports, the app is expected to
roll out by the end of 2025 for both Android and iOS platforms.
Updated Fee
Structure from October 1, 2025
At the same time, UIDAI has revised the fee
structure for Aadhaar updates, effective from October 1, 2025. The changes
apply until September 30, 2028. Key
updates include:
Demographic updates (changes to name, address,
date of birth, mobile number) now cost ₹ 75, up from the earlier ₹ 50.
Biometric updates (fingerprint, iris scan,
photo) are now ₹ 125, up from ₹ 100 previously.
Document updates (proof of identity/address)
at enrolment centres cost ₹ 75, while online updates may remain free for some
time.
Special
Reliefs for Children & Free Enrollment
While fees have increased for many services,
UIDAI continues to offer important reliefs:
Aadhaar enrolment for new residents remains free
of cost.
Mandatory biometric updates for children aged 5–7
years and 15–17 years are free of charge.
These provisions help ensure that children’s biometric data remains current
without burdening families with costs.
What This
Means for You
For residents of India, these changes call for
action and awareness:
If you need to update your Aadhaar details
like your mobile number, address or date of birth, wait for the e-Aadhaar App
launch this could save time and hassle compared with visiting centres.
Understand that from October 1, 2025 onwards,
certain updates cost more, so plan accordingly if you expect to make changes.
Ensure your mobile number is linked with your
Aadhaar, as many online services (including future app updates) will require
authentication via mobile OTP.
Children, parents and guardians should take
note of the free update windows for biometric updates taking care of these
periodically is important.
Even with the app, some updates especially
complex changes or biometric ones may still require physical verification. The
app will streamline many but not all processes.
Final
Thoughts
The launch of the e-Aadhaar App and the
updated fee structure mark significant steps in making Aadhaar maintenance more
user-friendly and digital-first. By shifting routine updates to mobile and
integrating government database verifications, UIDAI aims to reduce physical
visits and paperwork. At the same time, the new fee structure reflects the cost
of operating and upgrading this massive system but reliefs for children and
free enrolment show the balance of access and sustainability. For citizens,
staying informed and proactive will help ensure your Aadhaar remains
up-to-date, accurate, and easily usable for the many services that depend on
it.
